Core work

At CYE, we deliver incredible adventure experiences. But the most important thing we do, at our heart, is to bring young people joy and hope, while equipping them with lessons from the word of God that will last a lifetime.

What do we mean by 'Core Work'?

At CYE, “core work” means the everyday foundations that keep this place open and running. As a charity, the fees we charge don’t cover the full cost, so we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help keep the sails unfurled. It looks like

Hosting school residential and youth group weekends

  • Keeping this place safe, warm and ready for our guests
  • Maintaining the boats and equipment that make adventure possible
  • Investing in the team who lead, support and mentor
  • Covering the everyday costs that keep CYE running
  • Supporting the wider mission of CYE, including Christmas Outreach.

Why it Matters

Supporting our core work means investing in the lasting impact of CYE. That impact isn’t accidental; it flows from the mission at the heart of this place, shaping every activity, every conversation and every opportunity we create. Our mission is to:

SHARE...

...the Good News of Jesus Christ with all ages so that people can respond.

Enable...

...people to develop socially, spiritually, physically and mentally, experiencing Christian love and unconditional regard.

Equip...

...Christians to be trained and developed, as disciples of Jesus, to serve and present the Good News of Jesus Christ to future generations.

learning to follow learning to lead - this to go in who we are?

At the heart of our impact is intentional discipleship. Faith isn’t an add-on at CYE, it shapes the way we live, lead and grow together. That’s true for our staff team as much as for the young people we serve. Through increasing responsibility, mentoring and community, we walk alongside one another as we all learn what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life.

Our Trainee Programme this to go on young adults page

For 18–25 year olds, our Trainee Programme is a time of growth and stretching. You’ll take on real responsibility in leading activities, while being mentored and discipled in community — learning first to follow Christ, and then to lead others well.

Volunteering this to go on young adults page

However you’re able to be involved, volunteering at CYE is about more than filling a role. It’s about joining a community that walks with young people as they grow in confidence and faith. Many volunteers find CYE a place to belong AND find their own faith strengthened along the way.

this to go

Many young people return to CYE year after year, growing through each stage of camp. What starts as a first adventure often becomes something deeper — faith taking root and a real sense of belonging. Some become trainees or volunteers; others go on to see their own children experience CYE too, continuing a connection that spans generations.
