30th November 2009 - Back in the water The new CYE Ship 'Project Enterprise', was re launched back into the water in the moonlight on Monday 30th November after having the superstructure fitted under cover over the past 3 months. It is now sitting very pretty, dockside, awaiting the fitting out stage in 2010. Prices are being received in December and a decision will be taken on a contractor in the New Year. So far over £400,000 has been raised towards the project total of around £1m. If you would like more information click on www.cye.org.uk/fundraising or to donate www.cye.org.uk/donate.

Windows and Doors will be fitted next week, followed by painting. By the end of November the boat will come out of the shed and be put back on the mooring. Sponsored Mast Climb On 19th September Norman Doney, Chris Doney, Phil Outram and Neil Avis climbed the mast of TS Tenacious to raise £1000 for CYE development fund and an amount for Jubilee Sailing Trust too. The picture shows Chris Doney and Phil Outram at the top of the mast. Three others have done sponsored events this summer and raised £1100 between them; thanks to Will Wilkinson, Maddie Saunders and Hannah Lithgow. Also many thanks to the Cranleigh Baptist Church Boys who cycled from Cranleigh to Shoreham and raised £1000. We are encouraging all our supporters and visitors to help raise funds for the new ship as an individual or a group or school. October 2009 Now the boat is in the dry, the building of the new superstructure is really 'sailing' along. The framework for the walls and roof are all complete and the roof is starting to go on. We are still on target to get the superstructure complete by Christmas. Click on a picture to view larger:
Saturday 12th September 2009 Many CYE supporters came to see the new ship this afternoon. Brief guided tours were given around the facilities at Trafalgar Wharf and the inside of the new ship. It has now been jet blasted back to its bare metal, and repainted ready for when it goes back in the water at the end of the year. There was then a brief presentation by CYE and key Trafalgar Wharf staff, with a ceremonial signing of contracts! (along with a large cheque being handed over by CYE) The ship is now being worked on and we hope to see a superstructure on its way soon. Click on a picture to view larger:
Tuesday 1st September 2009 - ITS OUT OF THE WATER ! Early this morning (to catch the high tide) the new ship was put on the ship lift at Trafalgar Wharf and brought out of the water. The whole operation took a mere 30 minutes. It was brought in above the submerged platform, which held two sets of wheels with cradles. This was then raised, bringing the new ship out of the water already on wheels and was then towed ashore ready to be jet washed. BUT... This is no ordinary jet washer, this one will strip all the layers of paint that have been applied over the years and take the hull back to bare metal ready for painting. Below are some pictures of the lift, and a time lapse video (sped up 16 times) so you can see the whole operation in only 2mins! Click on a picture to view larger:
Thursday 16th July 2009 - Norman on Radio Solent Norman was interviewed on Radio Solent early this morning about the project. Wednesday 15th July 2009 - BARGE VIDEO This afternoon, the Harbour master cleared the Tug and Barge to enter Portsmouth Harbour, so with the harbour pilot aboard it entered at 4pm. Anyone local will know how the wind had got up overnight, and the barge tended to sway on its tow line a fair bit, but by 5:30 the barge was alongside at Trafalgar Wharf in Portchester. Here's a short video showing some of the journey over the last 3 days, squashed into 3 minutes. Wednesday 15th July 2009 - ITS HERE! (well, nearly here) At 6pm yesterday (Tuesday 14th) the Barge had just past Beachy Head, and after quite a rough last section, they anchored safely outside Portsmouth Harbour in the early hours of this morning. They are now awaiting an appointment with the Harbour master this afternoon, to allow them to enter the harbour and make their way to its new mooring for the next stage of development. Come back tomorrow for pictures (and maybe even some video) of this afternoon's events...
Tuesday 14th July 2009 We had word from the towing crew at 9am today that they have a superb flat calm, and are managing a whopping 8 knots (which is pretty good when you're towing a MASSIVE barge!) At this rate, they could reach Portsmouth harbour slightly ahead of schedule, but will still wait for the wednesday tide to tow to the new berth. WE'LL KEEP YOU INFORMED !
Here's the moment when the tug started the mammoth journey to Portsmouth:
Monday 13th July 2009 EXCITING UPDATE -THE BARGE IS ON THE MOVE Now that the barge is water-tight, with its new deck and port-holes, it's on the move. The next stage will take place more locally... IN PORTSMOUTH and the Barge leaves Lowestoft TODAY ! Come back tomorrow and see how far the barge has got. It's due to arrive in Portsmouth Harbour on Wednesday.
May 2009 Most of the deck is now on, and some of the vertical coamings. All the portholes have now been fitted down the port side of the ship except for one. Click on a picture to view larger:
April 2009 Norman visited Lowestoft this week (that's where the Barge is currently being worked on) to see progress on the first main phase of work... the new deck! - yes, after a lot of metal has been taken OUT of the barge, its time for some new to be put back in. Once the deck is on, the barge will be weather tight (for the first time in some years) and ready for the next phase of work. The first of the portholes has also been fitted. Click on a picture to view larger: April 2009 We now have finalised plans for the layout of the new ship, those of you who have ever slept on the current ship, will be overjoyed to see not only a sink in every cabin and extensive shower facilities BUT... a 700% increase in the number of on-board toilets! Click here to see the exciting new deck plans March 2009 Staff team visit new ship: 'It is massive!', 'I can imagine it all now' A couple of comments from the staff group that went across to Lowestoft on Friday 6th March to visit the new ship. They crawled over the ship, with a large scale plan plotting where all the facilities will be. Also Norman led a devotional; and prayer time dedicating the ship and seeking God’s provision To break the journey everyone stopped at Fellowship Afloat overnight on Thursday, renewed friendships and enjoyed their wonderful hospitality. October 2008 We have put the conversion work out to tender and are currently waiting for quotes. We hope to start work on the conversion phase in 2009. One planning permission point was that the barge be painted black and green, rather than blue and grey (as in the Lego model above), as this will help it blend into its surroundings more, all the below diagrams are in the new proposed colours. Click here to see side views of the barge Click here to see bow and stern views of the barge
August 2008 To get people excited about the project especially people who don't understand plans, elevations, and similar official diagrams, we asked CYE volunteer (and self-confessed LEGO fan) Jez Cheesman to build a scale model of what the finished Barge could look like, based on our current ideas.
July 2008 We have commissioned a marine architect to work on designs of fitting out the new vessel, have obtained planning permission. The superstructure and deck have been cut off, and in time a new deck, at an adjusted height and larger superstructure will be built.
June 2008 We have raised over £100,000 to purchase the barge we found in January & to start work on it. So we are now the proud owners of a 32m x 9m steel barge called: 'MOD Barge 1020' (yes that's what it's currently called!)
2007 to May 2008 A great deal of planning has gone on, and many boats, barges and ships of all sorts have been looked at. (its a bit like buying a house really!) In January we found what we hope is a suitable barge
